Fun Ways to Spend Your Daily Commute

16th January 2018

For most of us, going to and from work is more than just a routine. It is a part of our everyday lives and one that cannot be replaced or substituted. For some who work quite far away from home, a simple daily commute means spending up to three hours – sometimes even more – on the road.

The time you spend on the road should not go to waste. There are a lot of things you can do to spend your daily commute more effectively, but in this article, we are going to focus more on the fun activities you can try.

Try New Games

Gaming has become more accessible these days. You can carry with you a portable gaming console for some entertainment; Nintendo’s latest Switch console is picking up traction and offers superb gaming experience anywhere, including when you’re on the road. Mobile games are much more entertaining to play too.

Of course, you don’t need to buy a gaming console to have some fun while commuting. Thanks to browser-based games and sites such as Arcade Lots, you can now play classics like the On the Run car game from anywhere. All you need is a standard web browser and some time to kill.

Listen to Audiobooks and Podcasts

Not everyone loves reading. I personally don’t like reading while commuting because it makes me feel dizzy from motion sickness after just a couple of minutes.

To still be able to enjoy my favorite books and kill time while commuting, I turn to audiobooks; I’m on the fourth Harry Potter book right now, and all I have to do is listen to Stephen Fry – a well-known British TV personality – read me Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and I am in seventh heaven.

Podcasts are just as exciting and entertaining. We have podcasts from the likes of Gary Vaynerchuk and titles such as S-Town to listen to. That’s it; just put on your earphones and have tons of content just a couple of taps away.

Social media sites in general really make commuting much more manageable. Twitter and Instagram let you browse through posts from friends, relatives, and other people you follow. You can also post your own stories or tweet random, funny things to entertain others.

Social media platforms are also great sources of news and latest updates. You can get information on recent events, traffic reports, and other topics just by following the right accounts that suit your interests.

Connect with Others

It is actually sad to see the way people don’t talk to each other when commuting. Every now and then, however, you find someone who greets you kindly, and you’ll be lost in a pleasant conversation before you know it.

Making new friends and connecting with other people is always rewarding. Their stories can be very fascinating; you never know who you can meet while commuting to work. I’ve even found one or two clients while commuting to work.

There are plenty of ways to have fun while commuting to work. The ideas we discussed in this article are just some of the examples you can try on your next daily commute.
