If you are wandering if a charger could ever be more expensive than the phone it charges, the answer is yes! Monster Cable, in collaboration with luxury jeweler Harrods has come up with a limited edition 24K gold and platinum powercards to charge your smartphone with.
The powercard is one of the best selling portable chargers because they universal chargers that are very light and easy to carry around, they are the size of a credit card, with a 1,650 mAh Li-Polymer battery, with a 1.5 amp USB to charge your phone quickly. The regular powercard generally cost less than $40 each, the 24K gold and platinum edition of these powercards cost $1,997, and $2,163 respectively.
There are only 10 of the powercards, which make them a great collector’s item; they come with a specially designed case and an individual number. These chargers obviously weren’t made for people with regular smartphones, because there aren’t many people who will pay more than twice what their smartphone costs for a charger that charges their phone halfway.
They were designed with affluent people in mind, the kind of people who attended the World Luxury Expo in Abu Dhabi last year, and paid over $5,000 for the limited edition 24K gold plated or platinum iPhone and similar smartphones that were designed by another London based company, Gold & Co. London, without batting an eyelash.
The exclusive, limited edition powercards are currently available for sale at the London retailer, on the third floor where the Harrods technology event is taking place. They will be available to buy until the end of the event on April 11, 2014. So if you have some extra cash burning a hole through your pocket, feel free to pick up a powercard or two. If you are in the mood to spend some more cash, Harrods also designed luxury headphones you can use on your smartphone that they call Diamondz; you can get these for only $416.
